11th October 1835 David Dunlop and Marion Smith, parishioners
Helen feels Catherine may have died shortly after hers and David's marriag
e, perhaps in childbirth. There is nothing conclusive in the records she
's searched so far, so more work will need to be done here in the future.
Another possibility for a son of David and Catherine's except that the bir
th would've been pre-marriage ...

Information received from Carol Ahern which could be my Dunlops' journ
ey to Australia, but I will need to look into this further ...
"What about this chap on the "Lightning"...arriving with brothers/cousi
ns including a James. The age of James and William doesn't fit in with Da
vid and Catherine's marriage, so could be cousins????
DUNLOP ALEX 22 JUL 1854 LIGHTNING B 072 005
DUNLOP JAMES 28 JUL 1854 LIGHTNING B 072 005
DUNLOP WM 30 JUL 1854 LIGHTNING B 072 005
But back in NSW, I found this entry on NSW BD&Ms and is the only DUNLOP en
try that I can find where the parents were David and Catherine. I did a d
ouble check, and there is no birth for Robert in NSW, so perhaps a possibi
lity.
3762/1899 DUNLOP ROBERT DAVID CATHERINE WATERLOO
So there are 2 options (so far!).
***Did Alexander arrive on the "Superb" as a child OR did Alexander arri
ve into Victoria as an adult with brothers/cousins?? (or neither is Alexan
der's arrival for that matter!)."
As suggested by Carol, I will need to order Alexander's death certifica
te whereon it will state how many years he had been in the Colony.
I have now requested some research be done by Helen Curtis in the UK. I r
eceived this information from her, and she'll continue to do research f
or me as long as I keep paying I guess! ;D
"These were the only Dunlops still living in Irvine, in the index of the 1

There was a David Dunlop aged 60 with his family in Irvine area, but no Al
exander with him.
I found the reference for the marriage of David Dunlop and Catharine Ho
od on the 15 July 1832 594/4Fr1256Irvine
However, fairly quickly afterwards there was the following:
David Dunlop and Marion Smith11 October 1835594/4Fr 1264
So it is a possibility that Catharine Hood died and David remarried.
There were no births of any children to David Dunlop and Catharine Hood re
corded in indexes of the Old Parish Records of Ayrshire."
I need to go through the information above when I've got more time. Sin
ce I'm again behind with email, I'll have to come back to this a bit late
r. Hopefully by then Helen will have more information for me! :D
I've been pottering around on the 1881 British Census and found this fami

Could this be my Catherine? Hmmmmmmmmm not sure!!
If David DID remarry a Marion Smith, it's not going to be so easy to fi
nd her. There are so many Mary's and Marion's it's not funny!!!
